The Rabbits of TWRC – Bless the Beasts

Shown here are some of the rabbits (cottontails, swamps, and jacks) which have passed through our facility on their way to being released back to the wild. Some are orphans, others injured, but they have all been given a second chance. As a general rule, orphan rehab success rates typically tend to be low for rabbits; however, our rehabilitators are fairly successful in raising kits to the point of release. TWRC is an urban wildlife emergency and rehabilitative care facility serving the Greater Houston area. Established in 1979, TWRC focuses on conservation, public education, and wildlife rehabilitation, and is operated by part-time staff and volunteers who are permitted rehabilitators and animal lovers. TWRC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which receives no federal or state funding. Because of this, we rely on individual, corporate, and foundation contributions to continue our efforts in preserving and caring for Texas wildlife. Visit us at www.twrc-houston.org or call 713-468-8972 for more information, to learn how you can become a volunteer, or to donate to our organization.

Answer by Lucy
Rabbits are not very affectionate. They are inexpensive to care for. They stink and will need frequent cage cleaning. They do not need an extremely large cage but will need to get out to exercise a bit. Rabbits don’t “play” with anything. They poop little pebbles. They eat vegetables and alfalfa pellets.

rabbit care question by alexis c: how do i care for a rejected rabbit?
what can i do if a rabbit rejects her baby she only has one ? is that normal? can i give it puppy milk?

rabbit care best answer:

Answer by R.N.
We had a dog that had 2 puppies. She let 1 pup nurse, but not the other puppy. What we ended up doing, and you can do this for the rejected baby is get an eye dropper. Then get some regular milk and put in a glass or container. Get some of the milk in the eye dropper, and give to the baby rabbit. Then when you are done, put the baby over by the mother. Do not pick up the baby with your bare hands. Wear some plastic gloves on when you are giving it some milk with the eye dropper.

My new bunny icon biggrin The Perennial Care Manual: A Plant by Plant Guide: What to Do and When to Do It Reviews

He’s 7 weeks old and I got him from a friend at work. He’s so cute. icon biggrin The Perennial Care Manual: A Plant by Plant Guide: What to Do and When to Do It Reviews This footage is from the first 10 minutes after he got out of the box we’d carried him home in. He certainly settled pretty quickly. He was sat with us watching TV for about an hour last night. icon smile The Perennial Care Manual: A Plant by Plant Guide: What to Do and When to Do It Reviews Note that the cage arrangement is temporary. His final cage will be around a 25% shorter however he will be getting 2 levels. It’ll be made with wood and mesh. He seems happy enough for now with what he has though. It’s just a borrowed pen with a blanket underneath. He has no name yet. I just keep calling him “bun bun” (as in bunny of course lol) for now until I get something. Sorry about the room being so dark. Can only have energy bulbs in this house (too high voltage in the house regular bulbs burst) and in winter the lighting is always pretty dim. Later on some hay was also put in the cage so I think we’re taking good care of him so far. icon biggrin The Perennial Care Manual: A Plant by Plant Guide: What to Do and When to Do It Reviews

Answer by Kelsey
Well, with some animals, their mother acts like that to their children so when the children are on their own, they wont be depending on their mother for survival. Im pretty sure its the same with rabbits. so dont be worried…… shes just doing what she is supposed to.

response: awwwww im soo sorry!!! so all of the bunnies died??

rabbit care question by : How to care for a rabbit?
Does anyone have any good tips about how to keep a rabbit living as long as possible?

rabbit care best answer:

Answer by Kay_x
plenty of love. but almost 75% of pet rabbits are overweight! it is very easy to do this because they eat and eat and eat! remember that you don’t need to fill the food bowl ALL the way to the top. rabbits cannot see what it is they are eating because there nose is in the way, so they usually overcompensate! basically, give them lots of love, lots of things to chew, monitor there diet, give them a run so they have plenty of exercise and sunlight. have fun with your new pet!
